There are several things that keep pushing me, over and over, to visit the Marghazar Valley in Swat: Mount Elum, the lush green gorgeous landscape, serene environment, its historical sacredness, and above all, the White Palace of the state era in its lap. The White Palace of Marghazar was built in 1940 by the first king of Swat, Miangul Abdul Wadud (Badshah Sahib) in the small town of Marghazar situated about 13 kilometres away from Saidu Sharif. The name was given to the palace as it was built of white marble. The palace now serves as a hotel and is a very famous tourist resort. The palace is known as the White Palace because it was entirely built from white marble, which was specially imported from Jaipur India. The material for the mesmerizing Taj Mahal was also imported from the same place. The raw materials for the palace were imported from all around the world. The King brought marble from Agra, bronze from Belgium, and artisans from Turkey who designed the palace. The palace is home to a vast variety of fauna and flora. The beautiful collection of fauna and flora makes the area look like a mini zoo. The Palace still has 24 big rooms and 2 big conference halls where the King used to hold meetings.
