Gilgit to Skardu by road

The road between Gilgit and Skardu of 245 km was constructed by the Pakistan Army in collaboration with Chinese force. It was completed in 1982. It takes about 5 to five and half hours to reach Skardu from Gilgit. By road journey from Gilgit to Skardu is enjoyable because as you depart the Gilgit city you will reach a junction separating the ways to Rawalpindi and Skardu. If you head towards the Skardu from this junction there will be a bridge on the Gilgit River. After that bridge has crossed the road will follow every twist and turn of the Indus River, Pakistan's largest river up to Skardu. While on the way you will see a number of breath-taking valleys and number of suspension bridges on the Indus River. The vehicle depending on the time of the departure will make a stop for lunch or tea at "PTDC Motel Stak Nala" There are other local hotels too at Stak Nala, but most of the International tourists prefer the PTDC. When you reach Stak Nala half of the journey would be covered. It will take about two and half hour to reach Skardu from here. After about an hour from Stak Nala, you will reach Dambudas" The headquarter of the subdivision Roundu". And when some more distance is covered you will be enjoying the pleasant weather of Skardu.
